About This Item

New York: Grove Press, 1965. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. First edition. Front hinge professionally repaired, else very near fine in a price-clipped, near fine dustwrapper with small tears and rubbing at the spine ends, but none of the usual fading to the light-sensitive orange spine lettering. Malcolm X's autobiography as related to Alex Haley, the first book for both. The first printing is very scarce. Basis for the excellent 1972 documentary *Malcolm X*, as well as the 1992 Spike Lee film *Malcolm X*, featuring Denzel Washington in the title role.

Synopsis

The Autobiography of Malcolm X was written by Alex Haley between 1964 and 1965, as told to him through conversations with Malcolm conducted shortly before Malcolm X's death (and with an epilogue after it), and published in 1965. The book was named by Time magazine as one of the most important nonfiction books of the 20th century.
