Weidenfeld & Nicolson, London, 1985. Reprint. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Good. 408 pp., acknowledgements, notes and index. Yellow coloured endpapers. The text is copiously, illustrated with 235 colour and 299 black and white illustrations (including plans, and room plans). Dark brown coloured boards with gilt decoration and embossed writing on the front panel and on the spine. Very slight rubbing to the book edges and there are some dust marks to the top paper edge. The marks to the endpapers and previous owners name is on the ffep. Some handling marks throughout the book. Illustrated dustwrapper, showing a room in Mary Ellen Best's house in Frankfurt in about 1844, with dark brown background and white writing on the front panel and spine. Dust wrapper is slightly faded and the corners are slightly stuffed. Some wrinkling and crinkling to the dust wrapper edges. Dust wrapper is priced clipped on the front fold over on the bottom of right-hand corner. "In this major book Peter Thornton describes and illustrates in detail the way in which people arranged their houses and arranged their interior decoration in Europe and America from 1620 to 1920.".
