T.S. Arthur (1809-1885), American temperance crusader, editor, and author of fiction and non-fiction works such as Ten Nights in a Bar-Room. From 1844 to 1846 Arthur was a publisher of and contributor to Arthur's Ladies' Magazine. He was editor and publisher of his monthly Arthur's Home Magazine from 1852 to 1885. (Also called Arthur's Lady's Home Magazine and Arthur's Illustrated Home Magazine). Contents include The Himalayas The Aurora (sic) Borealis Pearls and Dishwater Lay Sermon Mothers' Department Boys' and Girls' Treasury Evening with the Poets And much, much more. (see the photo of contents page) Lots of illustrated advertisements: Wannamaker and Brown, Solar Gas Generator, Greer's Garden Seed, Domestic Sewing Machine, and Great Western Gun Works to name just a few. Condition: Rear cover detached but present. Edgewear, creasing and chipping. Old tape repair to tear across the front cover. Light scattered foxing.
