This book was prepared in response to public interest in Dobell's art after the famous legal case surrounding his portrait of Joshua Smith. From the Present Day Art in Australia series. Signed 'Bill Dobell' beneath a portrait of him taken by famed photographer, Max Dupain, and dated 1946. Octavo, original cloth, 21 colour plates and 80 in black & white, head of spine has browned, endpapers and half-title page are foxed, previous owner's inscription, occassional spottting; a near fine copy in a chipped dust-jacket.
