NEW EDITION 1878, A REPRINT OF THE SIXTH EDITION 1872, Twentieth Thousand, with additions and corrections to 1872. 8vo, approximately 190 x 120 mm, 7½ x 4½ inches, folding chart, pages: xxi,1-458 including half-title and index, original publisher's green cloth, gilt lettering and decoration to spine, blind-stamped decorative borders to covers, brown endpapers, (the pastedown and the endpaper at front have at some time been replaced and are unsightly, see image, the rear original ones are fine) the bookbinder's small ticket on last pastedown, adverts to verso title page. Binding rubbed, slight shelf wear to edges and corners, inner paper hinge cracked, otherwise a good copy. THIS EDITION IS AN UNEDITED REPRINT OF THE FIRST EDITION. 8vo, approximately 220 x 145 mm, 8½ x 5½ inches, portrait frontispiece of Izaak Walton, title page a facsimile of that in the first edition of 1653, 7 text illustrations, a river scene and 6 small engravings of fish plus 2 pages of music (the second printed upside down as issued), decorated initials, all by H. G. Webb, text printed red and black. Slim 8vo, approximately 220 x 135 mm, 8½ x 5¼ inches, engraved portrait of Jonas Hanway and engraved folding chart of New Holland dated 1787, pages: 113-168, nicely bound by Sangorski & Sutcliffe (their name in gilt at the foot of first pastedown), in half calf, gilt lettering and rules to spine, marbled boards with dividing gilt rules, new cream endpapers. Lacks original wrappers, printing on page 137 a little pale, but all text legible, pale age-browning, 2 small neat edge repairs, otherwise a very good copy. One article outlining early Dutch discoveries and the landfalls of William Dampier before Captain Cook's survey of the east coast.
