Illustrator: Illustrated. 1.430 kg.; V, 6-192 pages, Trustees and Supervisors, Director's Preface, acknowledgements introduction by Edward Maeder, and index. Dark red coloured endpapers. The text is illustrated with black-and-white contemporary illustrations, graphs, and coloured and black-and-white photography. At the rear of the book is a facsimile of the original text, in original French language, and engravings. 1/4 dark red cloth backstrip with gilt titles. 3/4 beige coloured boards with ochre coloured titles to the front panel. A little rubbing to the book edges. Colour photographic slipcase with ochre coloured background and pale yellow titles to the backstrip. Rubbing to the slip case corners and to the backstrip corners. Heavy rubbing to the slipcase panels. Translated and annotated by Nikki Scheuer . Charles-Germain de Saint-Aubin was designer to King Louis XV. The masterpieces of embroidery created in museum collections through out the world, but his treatise on the embroiderer's art, L'Art du Brodeur, is the written consummation of his life's work and craft. First published in 1770, this classic text has been a standard reference for centuries, but an English translation of good work has never been attempted previous to this edition." -- from the rear slipcase panel blurb.
