About This Item
Moscow; Leningrad: Gosizdat, 1928. 160 pp.: ill. 20x14 cm. In original wrappers. Very good.
First and only edition. One of 2000 copies. Very rare.
This is a trade catalogue of Gosizdat, the State Publishing House. It was formed in 1919 by merging the largest departmental and cooperative publishing houses as "a single state apparatus of the printed word". Besides carrying out purely publishing functions, the position approved by the All-Russian Central Executive Committee was also entrusted with the regulation and control over the activities of "all scientists and literary societies, as well as all other publishing houses". Later in 1930 OGIZ was formed by merging all state book and magazine publishers. As a result of combining industry publishing houses with the relevant departments of the State Publishing House, large typed publishing houses were formed, e.g. Izogiz which became the prime source of all art literature.
This catalogues includes different art books all of which divided into sections: painting and graphics, political graphics, graphic techniques, art history, philosophy and sociology of art, theatre and music, illustrated editions of Russian and foreign writers, guides, other, and index.
Worldcat locates copies at New York Public Library and Library of Congress.
