Description:
New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons,, 1942. Second edition of this influential, if controversial, study, first published in 1940. This copy inscribed by the author, "To General Martel from a follower in the wake of the Tank, Hoffman Nickerson". The recipient was Sir Giffard Le Quesne Martel (18891958), and the inscription refers to his 1931 publication In the Wake of the Tank, which is an account of his role as one of the main progenitors of tank warfare during WWI and in the subsequent mechanization of the British Army. Later book label of Australian bibliophile and military collector David D. Levine to the front pastedown. Octavo. Original vivid yellow buckram lettered in black on the spine and front board. With the striking Don Ross designed dust jacket. Maps and plans to the text. Cloth a little spotted, corners bumped, toning to the text, price-clipped jacket tanned on the spine, a little rubbed and with a couple of minor marks, but overall a very good copy.
