About This Item
Austin, Texas; (1963): Published for the Amon Carter Museum of Western Art By the University of Texas. First Edition. Quarto. 103 pages, bibliography. A review copy with card laid in dated 1/24/63. This work is an exciting pictorial record of the spotted horse in many cultures and through many centuries. There are sixty-five illustrations, fourteen in color, representing the spotted horse from cave paintings, mosaics, tapestries, water colors, an Indian tipi, weapons and the classics in Western art. The author, Francis Haines, notes: "Not all spotted horses....are Appaloosas". A fine copy bound in brown cloth, spine lettering gilt in unclipped pictorial dust jacket with tiny closed tear and wear to spine ends, some soiling, a nick to spine, some wrinkling to rear panel. A very nice copy.
