This work was carefully read in the original Greek in manuscript books in Medieval and Renaissance universities. It began to be printed in the 1490's and this became the main copy read by 18th century physicians. He thought about food and diet (and noted fasting as a cure for obesity). Rabelais found great delight in his reading it according to scholars as he had seen some of its humorous aspects. Bound in full contemporary paneled calf, rebacked, spine panels decorative stamped in blind, double black labels gilt, wear to corners, some toning to leaves, pages 296 and 297 have off-setting from paper laid in.
