About This Item
Geoffrey Cumberlege/Oxford University Press, Melbourne, 1948. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Good. Illustrator: Victor Cooley. The text is illustrated with eight black-and-white full page decorations by Victor Cooley. Illustrated front cover, showing a black illustration of a ship against a tan coloured board. Black coloured titles to the front panel and backstrip. Illustrated dustwrapper, by Pat Terry, with brown and yellow titles to the front panel and black titles to the backstrip. "This is a first-rate adventure story, telling the voyage to the Antarctic made by " The Evening Star," on which the hero, Dick Hulston, is senior wireless operator." -- from the front fold over panel blurb. Bumping and rubbing to the backstrip edges and to the book corners. Very heavy browning of the text block edges and there are a few stains present, as well light browning and offset tanning to the endpapers and very heavy browning of the internal text. The real hinge has cracked. Rubbing and chipping to the dustwrapper corners and to the backstrip edges. There are two tears to the top edge of the rear dustwrapper panel and one tear to the top edge of the front dustwrapper panel all measuring approximately 0.25 ". There is a 0.5 " tear to the lower left-hand corner of the rear dustwrapper panel with a crease that runs the full width of the panel connecting with a similarly sized tear to the rear spine gutter. There is rubbing to the fold over creases and to either side of the spine. 2 inches from the lower dustwrapper edge is an area of fading and darkening, commensurate with a sticker having been applied to the area. The rear dustwrapper panel is somewhat rubbed and is lighter rubbing to the front dustwrapper panel. A previous owner had supported some of the weaker points of the dustwrapper with tape applied to the verso of the dustwrapper, the tape is still in situ. Size: 12mo (standard paperback). VIII, 9-192 pages, last two pages bank.. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Illustrator: Victor Cooley. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 500 grams.
