London: Book Club Associates, 1971. Hardcover. Fine/Very Good. SIGNED by Chris Bonington on the title page. Near FINE condition but minor bump upper outside cover corners, clean, tight binding, no foxing, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages (except for Bonington's signature), with nice dust jacket that has no tears, no chips, rubbing very tips corners, very faded red lettering spine but still visible. Book Club edition published same year as the first UK edition. Same size, same contents, same format as the first edition. Original turquoise hardcover with gilt lettering spine. This book measures 24cm tall x 155mm, and has 334 pages, 48 color plates, illustrations, index. New route marred by death of Ian Clough in an avalanche. This is the account of the FIRST big Himalayan face climb (the Messner brothers' ascent of Rupal Face of Nanga Parbat followed one month later), a landmark achievement in mountaineering. Whillans and Haston summited.
