Text block tight; pages clean; book contains a number of b/w drawings in text and 16 colour plates by Peggy Jeremy at end of book; annotation to plates at end of book. Unclipped, coloured, pictorial dust jacket is chipped & torn at both ends of spine & flap creases but otherwise intact & protected by a plastic sleeve; intro to book on front flap; selected list of King Penguins on back flap.

The examples discussed in this book date from the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Originally the potters chose their subjects from their own fields and woodlands but later travel books led them to work on wild beasts from foreign shores. DW has been repaired.
