A 1941 reprint of the scarce 1927 Farrar Rinehart edition, indexed, 1 1/2 pages of errata. Complete and unexpurgated, edited and with an introduction by Floyd Dell and Paul Jordan-Smith. From the Preface: "Burton's great book, always the delight of the wise and curious"...the present editors have undertaken to restore to this work the unihibited appreciation which it had in its author's day." A ground breaking 17th century work. The first gropings toward an understand of human psychology absent a susperstitious basis. Anthony Powell made great and effective use of it in his twelve novel sequence A Dance to the Music of Time. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾". Hard Cover. As noted in the preface, translated into modern terminology, Burton's title would read, "An Analysis of Morbid Psychology." A rather handsome copy of this rather uncommon volume. Light shelf wear, one corner through, joints starting, rear cracked, touch of fraying at head and heel, spine evenlyl lightly and evenly toned, presentation letter tipped in at ffep, else tight, bright and unmarred. Blue cloth boards, red ink labels, gilt lettering and decorative elements. 8vo. 1036pp (including 2pp Errata).
