Boston: Forbes, 1917. First Edition. Fine. Howard Chandler Christy. A virtually pristine exemplar of a finely pulled original lithograph mounted professionally on linen cloth, measuring 44 1/2" x 30 3/4" tall and wide, respectively. Drawn by the American artist and illustrator, Howard Chandler Christy, who was most famous for the "Christy Girl." The author honed his skills doing military illustrations during the Spain-America War of 1898-1899, and then produced WWI-themed posters and handbills to support the troops in the U.S. Marines and U.S. Navy service branches. Remarkably sharp and bright, colorful and evocative. The lithograph depicts an allegorical female figure of America, standing in front of American flag, holding a wreath over an "Honor roll" that lists the surnames of 14 American soldiers, Poles and English, Hispanic and Greek. The 1919 Victory Liberty Loan campaign emphasized the imperative that all Americans invest. Put into a proper frame, this gorgeous lithograph will surely last another 100 years. Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
