Sturdy, attractive, tightly bound, internally clean hardcover copy, with unbruised tips, neat and tidy paste-downs; not ex-library, with neither highlighting nor underlining. Rebound in black cloth with gilt lettering to spine, new endpapers. Bump to bottom edge. Outer leaves tanned, dampstaining to top and side margins, a few small tears, scattered foxing. Tape repairs to title page. Massively heavy, oversized volume. vi + 774 + xvi pages, including index. The American State Papers comprise a fascinating, indispensable collection of documents for the scholar and teacher of U.S. history. They comprise 38 physical volumes relating 6,278 different documents that account for the legislative and executive documents of Congress from 1789 to 1838. The books are arranged into ten topical classes or series, this volume being from Class IV: Commerce and Navigation. Every volume contains an index and all but one has a Table of Contents.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
