A detailed account of the American military forces during the defence of and relief of the Foreign Legations in Peking, China, during the summer and fall of 1900 during the Boxer uprising. It is a detailed study of the organization and combat operations to relieve the besieged garrison. The major units were the U.S. 9th and 14th Infantry Regiments, the 6th U.S. Cavalry Regiment and the 5th U.S. Artillery, in addition there is ample coverage of U.S. Marine forces that were employed. Appendices include a complete list of the Marine & Naval garrison in Peking. .
