Pages are clean and bright with a firm binding. Endpapers and page edges are lightly tanned and foxed. Corners are dogeared in places. Boards have been moderately rub worn, with noticeable shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are bumped and a little frayed and spine ends are crushed, with small splits and chips. Tanning to spine and edges. Book has a forward lean. The unclipped dust jacket has heavy edge wear, with tears, chips and areas of loss. Tanning to spine and edges.

Corners curled, small tears to cloth at bottom of spine, small stain to bottom edge, rubbing and scratching to boards. Small date stamp, crayon mark and glued adhesive on rear pastedown. This could be from a private lending library but there are no stamps or other marks. Good.

First ed.; photo-portrait of handsome author in parka is frontis., with following inscription: "Best Wishes [to former owner] Your Arctic Friend, Dave Irwin, Feb. 16, 1938.254 p., clean and unmarked except for small stains along corners of lower edges of pp. 43-226; map end papers; clean unfaded green boards with black lettering and representation of dogsled and team on front board and gilt lettering on spine; binding firm; pictorial d.j. in blue, white and black is not clipped but there's chipping along edges.
