Chromolitho frontispiece, title page and 21 very pretty chromolitho plates of young children all by Harriet M. Bennett. Numerous very pretty sepia text illustrations, some full page, also by her. Spine cloth slightly rubbed, corners very slightly worn, a few small light scratches to upper cover, lower cover a little dusty, free endpapers slightly browned, red ink inscription to front pastedown (see image), small split to endpaper fold at lower edge, half-title lightly foxed, some margins lightly marked or faintly foxed, otherwise contents very nice, 3 inner joints cracked, binding tight and sound. Original illustrated paper on boards, 3 children watchint a cuckoo clock about to strike. No date, but a gift inscription of 1888 on inside of the front board. Edgewear minimal at the corners, and none at the spine ends. Binding is solid although the inside hinges are cracked. The Germans were producing the best chromolithographs at this time, this book done by Ernest Nister of Nuremberg. Inside, pages clean and tight - no foxing or browning. Lovely illustrations on nearly every page. .

Not dated, c.1886 from inscription on a different copy. Cream boards with titles and illustration of little children looking at a cuckoo clock on the front cover and a vignette of a little girl lying in a field of wild flowers on the back cover. Condition good, corners edges and spine edges rubbed, covers a little grubby, internally a few loose leaves, few light spots to first and last few leaves, a few grubby marks in margins, child's name in red pen on page 31, still quite clean and bright, complete. Rhymes and lullabies for little children, for each time of the day, with wonderful colour and sepia illustrations by Harriet M. Bennett. Lithographed and printed by Ernest Nister of Nuremberg.
