New York: The Crime Club - Doubleday, Doran & Co, 1954. First U.S. Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Fine. 8vo., 296pp. Sharp Stated First Edition, published in the same year in the UK Edition as "Not for Export". Square, tight and clean throughout with a hint of wear at the crown but quite minor. Pages toned as they invariably are with this title. Beautiful unclipped and uncommon, dust-jacket, ($2.75), has a touch of wear to the bottom edge but is fresh and bright with no chipping, creases or tears. Laid in is a full-page typed letter, dated two years before the publication of this title; a response to a letter received from Dayton, OH attorney H.A. Estabrook. Though the contents of that original letter is unknown, the content in the response is quite interesting, where the author's describe current films that they have seen and the possibility of adapting the Tommy Hambledon stories to the then relatively new medium of television, which though growing in popularity in the USA, was much scarcer in the UK. The letter is signed by both authors using their real names and is in Very Fine condition. It has shallow creasing where it was folded to fit in the envelope which is also present. A very handsome collectable copy of a somewhat less common novel, particularly in nice condition, featuring Tommy Hambledon of the British Intelligence Service whose adventures were based on Cyril Coles's own experiences during both World Wars. (Hubin p.87; McCormick & Fletcher, "Spy Fiction" p, 57-58).
