Norman, OK: University of Oklahoma Press, 1964. Octavo. 462p. index. bibliography. It was rugged frontiersmen like Al Sieber that were essential to winning of the Army's battles in the West. As Thrapp repeatedly shows when Sieber was not present, Generals George Crook and Nelson A. Miles were in losing battles. Of course it was Crook that recognized how valuable Sieber was. Bound in black cloth, spine lettering gilt over blue, in clipped pictorial dust jacket lightly rubbed. A very nice copy.
