Edmund Morel was inspired by Mary Kingsley in her sympathy for the African colonies, believing that the Africans should have rights under colonial rule. In 1903 he founded his own magazine with the assistance of John Holt, ?West African Mail? This book ?Affairs of West Africa?, is a collection of his essays about the ?growing interest in West and Central African questions? With a forward by Mary Kingsley, who?s travels around Africa and her experiences published in her books help to change the European view on Africans and the colonial rule. With a frontispiece, thirty five plates, and three maps. Collated, complete. Condition: In the original publisher?s cloth binding. Externally smart. Slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and light bumping to the extremities. Loss to the cloth at the head and tail of spine due to bumping. Split in cloth at the head of rear joint. Light rubbing to the rear joint. Very light markings to the boards, with a little cockling to the heads of the front and rear boards. Front hinge is starting but firm. Internally, generally firmly bound, with some light straining. Pages are bright. Some scattered spots throughout. Overall Condition: Good.
