New York: Hastings House Publishers, 1962. Hardcover. Small 4to. Blue cloth with silver lettering, pictorial dust jacket. 160pp. Color frontispiece, numerous illustrations (some color). Very good. Tight and internally near fine, though binding lightly edgeworn (mainly spine head/tail) and slightly "flecked"; jacket a bit edgeworn, with a few tiny edge chips. A handsome first edition of this well-illustrated history and how-to, one of the first studies of the topic. Pinney (1911-2010) was a prolific photographer, journalist, author and war correspondent. From the library of Senator Adlai E. Stevenson III (b. 1930) of Illinois.

Includes chapters on the photo agency, specialization, reproduction rights, successful ad campaigns and more. Illustrated with 100's of small b&w ads and 11 nice full color pgs. with photos by many now well known photographers including Herbert Matter, Avedon, Bert Stern, Irving Penn, Robert Frank and others. Although not an ex-library copy per se, it appears to me that this copy might have come from the library of an ad agency, but there are no visible markings. The bold dustjacket cover has minute wear, and some small scrapes and minute rippling to the top edges of a few pgs. Vg/vg.
