Sellers signed in pencil below the printed signature. In the right-hand margin is the pencilled signature of Lt. Arthur E. Loeser, who died during the Battle of Guadalcanal in 1942. At the upper edge of the portrait is handwritten "Presented by" and stamped "L. C. Carlton." Text provides family history and the life of David Foote Sellers (1874-1949) up to 1934. This pamphlet was produced to honor the presentation of a sword from Sellers' former shipmates on the U.S.S. Wisconsin. He served as Commander, Battleships Battle Force, United States Fleet until June 18, 1934, and then was reassigned as Superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy, where he stayed until his retirement in 1938.
