The Admirable Crichton by J M Barrie

London: Hodder and Stoughton A very good copy in the original blue decorative cloth binding with 16 tipped-in colour plates by Hugh Thomson. Undated but circa 1914. Barrie's play was published in 1914 with Hugh Thomson illustrations as part of Hodder's offering of high quality illustrated books for the Christmas market. It was produced in both quarto and octavo forms. This is the octavo edition in blue cloth with gilt decoration and titles to the front board and gilt titles to the spine. The plates are the same size as in the quarto version and work well in the smaller page format. With numerous black and white illustrations and designs by Thomson. The binding has slight darkening to the spine and a little wear to top, bottom and spine edges, but is otherwise very clean and bright. The contents are in very good to near fine condition.
