Melbourne University Press, Melbourne, 1940. First Edition. Paper. Fair Condition/No Dust Jacket. 90pp., foreword by J.G. Latham, Chancellor, University of Melbourne. Buff coloured covers with maroon decoration and maroon writing on the front panel and spine. Heavy foxing to the front panel particularly to the top 0.25 ". Foxing has also occurred generally to the rest of the covers. Scuffing and creasing of the corners has occurred and there has been bumping to the head and to the heel of the spine. Foxing and browning to the paper edges. Foxing and browning has also occurred to the endpapers and to the internal pages, but more heavily concentrated in the first few and last few pages of the book. "These addresses by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Melbourne have been delivered in the troubled and troubled years 1939 and 1940. They are all, in varying degree, designed to show that we cannot hope to save ourselves and our children from debts against not only our way of life, but also a very lives, and to break the world from it deliberately organise regime of cruelty and pitiless terror, unless we recognise and apply certain principles. We must achieve unity of national effort by devoting our intelligence and our resolution to the achievement of victory in the war.". Size: 12mo (standard paperback).
