Self-wraps, unbound and apparently removed from a larger collection of bound pamphlets as attested to by stab marks along the left edge. 28 pages. The signatures (i.e. groups of pages) are coming apart, though all are present. There is some foxing to the first and last few pages and the top inner corners of the last 2 pages have been singed. Good. <p>Nathan Lord's inauguration speech as Darmouth College's 6th President.<p>The U.S. Congregational clergyman and educator Nathan Lord (1793-1870) was the 6th President of Dartmouth College, serving from 1828 to 1863. A graduate of Bowdoin College and Andover Theological Seminary, he improved Dartmouth College's curriculum, raised admission levels and brought the college out of debt. His pro-slavery views were in direct contrast with those of the College's Board of Trustees and, as Civil War broke out, he came into conflict with board member Amos Tuck who was a founding member of the Republican party and close friend of Lincoln's. In 1863, Lord prevented the college from granting an honorary degree to President Lincoln and was forced to resign.
