Card of Mr. Thomas Donnelley, owner of Lakeside Press is laid in. Spine is moderately sunned. Otherwise, looks and feels unread. No noticeable signs of wear other than minimal rubbing to back cover. Inside is crisp, unmarked and tightly bound. Top edges gilt. Minimal, even age toning present to other page edges and EPs..

The 48th volume of the Lakeside Classics has red cloth covers with sharp gilt lettering and borders on the spine and sharp borders and a Lakeside Press emblem on the front cover. Top edges of the volume are gilt which is still sharp. Inside the front and rear covers of the book there is some age toning. Included with the book is the business card of Charles C. Haffner, Jr., Chairman of the Board of R. R. Donnelley and Sons Company at the time. The business card was kept inside the front covers and has some age toning on the left side of the card. Spine very slightly faded. A fine, bright copy. Includes an excellent historical introduction by Quaife. "A tale of remarkable courage of an isolated detachment of soldiery, and of shocking blundering and inefficiency on the part of the higher command" (Quaife). A personal account of the experiences of an officer's wife on the plains of Wyoming, fortified by invaluable additional material from the author's husband, Colonel Henry B. Carrington.
