Fine. - 3-5/8 inch high by 6-1/2 inch wide envelope marking the XXIII Olympic Summer Games in Los Angeles in 1984 with a color vignette of the pole vaulting event on its left side and a postage stamp depicting a pole vaulter at top right. Signed in black ink "Peter Snell". Fine.
Sir Peter George Snell (b. 1938) was a New Zealand middle-distance runner who won three Olympic gold medals, and in 1964 was the only male since 1920 to win the 800 and 1500 metres at the same Olympics. He also won two Commonwealth Games gold medals and set several world records. Snell had one of the shortest careers of world-famous international sportsmen yet his achievements were such that he was voted New Zealand's "Sports Champion of the [20th] Century" and in 2012 was named one of 24 inaugural members of the International Association of Athletics Federation Hall of Fame.
