Coloured illustrated frontispiece, being a reproduction of Pierre Bonnards' painting " The Bourgeois Afternoon 1900 ". The text is illustrated with copious contemporary black-and-white photographs and illustrations. Brown coloured boards with gilt coloured titles on the backstrip. Illustrated dustwrapper, showing on the front panel " The Cycling Hut in the Bois de Boulogne " by Jean Beraud and on the back panel " Le Moulin de la Galette " by Pablo Picasso, both paintings painted approximately 1900. Red and bone coloured titles to the front panel and black coloured titles to the backstrip. A biography of the year 1900 and of the germination of momentous events that would shape the 20th century. Heavy shelfwear to the lower book edges and bumping to the lower book corners. The dustwrapper is a little rubbed and there are a few small nicks to the top dustwrapper edge.
