Cincinnati, Ohio, 1858. Original manuscript. Very Good. One page, quarto, neatly written in sepia ink on blue stock, integral address leaf. In part: I Benjamin Knight of Cincinnati in the State of Ohio, Merchant, hereby authorize Edward D. Kimball* of Danvers...Massachusetts, merchant, to sell and convey the Bark called The Salem of three hundred and forty two tons burden...now lying in the Port of Boston...at which price and such terms of payment as he shall deem advisable...and apply the same in payment of my indebtedness to him....[signed] B. Knight. [Witnessed by] Geo. O. Shattuck." Dated July 6, 1858. *Edward D. Kimball, Esq. was head of the Salem, Massachusetts, Kimball family of maritime merchants, ships owners, bankers and textile mill owners. Benjamin Knight was a shipbuilder based in Cincinnati, Ohio.
