There is some indication that the work might have been written by Archbishop Theophan Prokopovich. Stamp that certifies that the book was legally disposed from the library as a duplicate. Otherwise, a nice and clean copy with some minimal signs of paper aging. Inscribed by the author, on the half title, to "????????? ???????? ???????(?????)", the first Serbian Scientific society and predecessors of the Serbian Academy of Science and Art.

A rare and beautiful copy of Orthodox Evangelion with luxury purple velvet binding with brass clasps and corner and center ornaments. Woodcut printed text and hand-colored illustrations. The book contains multiple hand inscriptions that are only partially legible.The pencil inscription on the front flyleaf contains references to Sarajevo, Bosnia, and Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria, as well as the years: 1911 and 1914. It is possible that the text in some way refers to the Bosnian crisis which served as a prelude to WWI. But, since we have not been able to translate the entire text, we cannot be certain of the context. Extremely scarce medicine book.
WorldCat and other bibliographies find only the later edition from 1826. This is the first and only copy of the 1816 edition known and currently for sale.
This book contains instructions for limb amputation procedures. It also contains illustrations of the various tools of the trade.
The author was Vincenz von Kern (born January 20, 1760, in Graz, † April 16, 1829, in Vienna), an Austrian doctor and surgeon.
Kern worked as a surgical assistant in Salzburg, Trieste, and Venice. In 1783 he moved to the hospital in Sankt Marx, where he practiced and attended surgical lectures at the same time. After Kern had become a master of surgery and obstetrics in 1784, he received his doctorate in 1790. chir. and in 1797 took over a professorship for surgery and obstetrics at the k. k. Lyceum in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Kern established a surgical reading society and a surgeon institute. Kern laid the foundation for a book collection that had already contained thousands of books by the… Read More
