About the author

William Schnabel was born in 1949 in California. He studied at U. C. Berkeley and San Francisco State before moving to France where he taught American history and American and British literature as a full professor. He edited Les Cahiers du GERF in France, and has published numerous articles and books on American culture, literature, and science fiction. During the 1960s, he was an eyewitness and participant in a number of events and demonstrations involving the civil rights movement, the Vietnam War and Students for a Democratic Society. His most widely read books are Les Annes soixante and Summer of Love and Haight.
