Description:
London: London House, 1999. First edition. Hardcover. Fine copy/fine. 8vo. Boards. Pp. 224. Illustrated. Checklist. Index. John Beckett began his political career in 1925 as the youngest Labour MP, but just six years later he was expelled from Parliament. He then joined Sir Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists and ran their propaganda. After quarrelling with Mosley he formed the National Socialist League with William Joyce, and then the People's Party with the Duke of Bedford. He spent the War years in prison. This biography by his son attempts to understand why Beckett's career was derailed and why some in his generation turned to radical right-wing politics.
