The novel was dedicated to J.R.R. Tolkien, and is among one of Lewis' most popular works.

First Edition Identification

The Screwtape Letters was first published by Geoffrey Bles, London, in 1942. The first edition dust jacket was issued in plain cream and the book was bound in black cloth. 

The first US edition was published by The Macmillan Company, New York in 1943. Bound in the original dark maroon cloth with black letters,1943 on the title page only. Price stamp of $1.50.
