From 2007-2009, he lost 230 pounds through eating better and exercising regularly (he did not follow a specific diet plan), and he kept the weight off for almost five years. He completed two half-marathons, a century ride (100 miles in one day) on his bike and appeared on NBC's Today and CBN's 700 Club to tell his success story to others who struggle with weight. He also won the Governor's Fitness Award from former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm. But old demons are hard to keep at bay forever, and unfortunately, he eventually gained back more than 100 of those pounds. That is why he wrote the book.
