Koestler's theories about human creativity in art, comedy and science, and how this relates to the natural world. Very Good book in Fair jacket, now in clear removable sleeve. Clean, bright covers, fading to red tinted top page edges . Page faces clean and well-bound, a little of the red colour of the top edges has bled onto the edge of the endpapers. Paperback book : red paper wrappers with printed black titles and company information to front, stapled, and with punched hole to top corner with string loop for hanging up. 58pp. With b&w photographic illustrations throughout. Company catalogue with prices- handles, escutcheon plates, hinges, finger plates, window fasteners etc. Cluse were Manufacturers and Brass Founders of Tottenham Court Rd. A few marks to wrappers, staples rusty and section in middle detaching (though held at the hole punch). Pages largely clean, some rust marks, light handling marks, many top corners creased. Previous trade owner has annotated the title page in 1938 & 1941. A Good copy. Pictures available.

Full leather, gilt title on red label to spine, gilt decorations to spine, and gilt border lines to main boards; tinted page edges. xv, 408pp. With frontispiece engraving of Richard Watson, and Memoir of him (two thirds of the book is taken up with Watson's Apology). A small but nicely produced volume, 13 x 8cm. Good+ condition. Well bound pages, some wear to the covers including loss of part of lower spine (backstrip), and to top corners of spine. Pages have general light browning and a few small spots. Tiny hole to a couple of pages over text, which is readable. Pictures available.

A sumptuous volume in olive-green cloth, lettered in gilt to spine and with blind-stamped decorations to front and back covers. 653pp, large quarto. The frontispiece is a fold-out colour lithograph of ceramic mosaic pavements by J.C. Edwards of Ruabon, followed by a pictorial engraved title page, and there are 16 other plate pages, mostly colour lithographs, of marbles, tiles, and sanitary fittings - all as listed in contents. Other pages show advertisments, often pictorial, including wallpaper, hardware, ironmongery, carpentry, brick, and horticultural building manufacturers. There are also sections on architects with addresses and professional rules, building prices etc. A Very Good copy overall. Purple paper-covered boards with printed title label to front, and cream dustjacket lettered in black with decorative border. 32pp. Octavo. With 4 tipped-in b&w reproductions of paintings of Tobit. Based on the authorised version of the Apocypha. Hand-set in Poliphilus and Blado italic by Martin Kinder, on laid paper. Good in Poor jacket. Page faces largely clean , with some light foxing to margins; heavier foxing spots to closed edges, endpapers browned. Covers have fading to margins, a few marks, and brown staining to spine. Jacket has unsightly large old liquid stain to front, spine and back corners, tears with small loss to front, other small losses to edges. Pictures available.

Mauve-grey cloth, with gilt images and decorations to spine, gilt title panel to front with black stamped dcorations. All edges gilt. 504pp, octavo. With 300 b& w engraved illustrations in text, including tissue-guraded frontispiece. The title on the covers in 'Playbook of metals' but Boy's Book on title page. This is a detailed and scientifically serious introduction to metals (and also coal and mineral mining) for young people. Good condition. Covers have rubbed edges and some scuff marks to back; gilt on spine is dulled, bright to front. Most pages clean, though there is regular foxing (mostly light) and a few dirt marks. Owner's ink name and address on second front endpaper, same name again on title page and on a couple of page margins. Front free endpaper (plain) has been removed. Pictures available.

Subtitled: Containing full Parliamentary, Legal and General Information concerning the Wholesale and Retail Liquor Trade; Statistics; and Directories of the Trade. A Fair copy overall. The pages of the main text are very good, clean and firmly bound (especially for such a thick volume), with some cockling to advert pages at front . The covers are poor: intact but have extensive patchy fading and cloth discolouration to front and back from old water or damp staining. Pictures available.
