London / New York / Toronto: Abelard-Schuman, 1967 / 68. First American edition. Hardcover. 8vo. 256p. Black and white illustrations accompany the text. Bound in blue publisher’s cloth. Binding is generally clean, fresh and tight. The dust jacket shows general rubbing and wear as well as a couple small spots of edge/corner chipping. A couple of faint tiny spots are present to the fore-edge of the book block. Interior pages are clean. “In ‘Unnatural History,’ an illustrated modern bestiary, Colin Clair has unearthed the incredible stories of a whole galaxy of extraordinary beasts. He explains how a unicorn was captures (with a virgin), how the phoenix managed to rise from his own ashes, and how the raven became black. The monstrous roc inhabit these pages as do the deadly basilisk, the many-headed Hydra, and the tiny gold-digging pismire” (from the dust jacket).

Binding has remained firm. Boards are a little rub worn, slight shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are a little bumped. Spine ends are mildly crushed. Light tanning to spine and edges. The clipped dust jacket has heavy edge wear, with tears, chips and areas of loss. Light tanning to spine and edges.
