Soft cover. tall8vo, 24cm, in 2 volumes, 107 & 126pp., Limited to 100 sets, this being # 58, with 24 illustrations including 2 frontis portraits (Sir John & Lady Franklin), notes, commentary, blue printed card wraps, spine edges worn, else near fine(ads) ~ A series of fifty letters written while Sir John Franklin serving as Lieutenant-Governor of Van Dieman's Land (Tasmania), 1836-1843. The letters continue on his return to England with the last letter being written on the very day (19th of May, 1845) that the "Erebus" and "Terror" sailed on Franklin's last and tragic Arctic Expedition. The set is number XV of the "Australian Historical Monographs" series.
