About This Item

London: Hooper and Wigstead, 1796. Second edition, "corrected and enlarged," 8vo bound in 12s, pp. xxiii, [1], 321, [3] (ads); engraved author portrait frontispiece not included in the first edition, text illustrations; full contemporary tree calf recently rebacked, red morocco gilt spine label; some scuffing, half title page not preserved, quires N and O possibly supplied; very good. Among the humerous ancedotes, verses, and essays (on such subjects as begging, funerals, public nuisances, and blundering pedantry), are biographical anecdotes on William Oldys, Joseph Ames, and Dr. Johnson, among others.
