Near Fine. 8 1/4 x 12 1/2 inches. 2 ffep + [12] + xii + [20] + 467 + 271 + 1 + 2 rfep + 4 full page engraved portraits (one more than called for in ESTC). Complete with half title and engraved portrait of Cranmer and title page in red and black, and divisional title pages. Bookplate "Ex Bibliotheca Hospitii Dominorum Advocatorum de Arcubus" or the Library of the Lords Advocate of the Arches [Court] which is the ecclesiastical court for the Province of Canterbury. Pages exceptionally bright and clean with a few light marginal stains to first [12] pages and light toning to 1-80 of the Appendix. Pages 136 and 190-91 of the Appendix are misnumbered. Bound in modern brown buckram with renewed endpapers. ESTCR17780 An exceptional copy of this biography and collection of documents related to Thomas Cranmer, who was a prime mover in the compilation of the first English BCP and the homilies that were long prescribed. A scarce work.
