Very Rare softcover copy of Cybernetics and Management by Stafford Beer.Condition is acceptable. The cover has a one inch chip and tear at the bottom of spine and there is a small water stain on the top corner of the first pages. Otherwise the pages are completely clean and crisp and in terms of the text it is in good condition without any markings. (see pictures for actual condition)

[Civil War] Bill of Lading. [New York?]: [Cromwell's New-York & New Orleans Steamship Line] November 21, 1863. One sheet 16.5 x 29 cm partly printed document with manuscript inserts. Very good.
The Union forces in May 1863 captured the city of New Orleans. By this document $10,000 of United States Treasury Notes are being sent to the City, in all likelihood to purchase cotton or other goods from the captured port. See for example, the New York Times for September 1863 describing a shipment from New Orleans of cotton and accompanied by U.S. Treasury notes, since the Confederate Currency would no longer be valid, people would need to finance purchase and sales with U.S. financial instruments. Interestingly, in February 1863 Congress rejected a provision in the banking bill that would have made interest-bearing Treasury notes legal tender. An interesting look at the practical issues in carrying on commerce during the Civil War.

Somewhat scarce in it's original version.A satiric compilation of newpaper quotes, public statements, cartoons, etc. on the topic of the US economy in the years leading up to and following the market crash of 1929. I would categorize the book as black humor, given that the editor's only "comment" on all this misinformation is provided by the two words of the book's title.The editor, Angly, was a journalist working for the Associated Press, and the New York Herald Tribune.Condition of the book is Very Good. The binding is straight and sound. Inside pages are complete. The main condition issue is discoloration to the endpapers (see photo).Please message me with any questions.

This 160 year-old book is in very good condition considering its age. Binding is soiled, scuffed and gilt titles are faded. Corners and spine ends are bumped. Hinges are tight and pages somewhat browned with age with occasional foxing, especially on end papers. Twelve black and white engravings throughout. The early days of New York's stock market is described with all its characters, swindlers, winners and losers playing their part.
