Seventh edition, originally published 1846 by Simpkin, Marshall. The massive, second work by the chef and culinary innovator who brought us cooking with gas and revisions of the soup kitchen. The Gastronomic Regenerator, in part named for a pamphlet the author issued during the Irish Famine, contains nearly two thousand recipes as well as instructions for proper set up of a kitchen. Many of the illustrations, including the famous portrait frontispiece are from drawings by Soyer's wife Emma Soyer. The work includes a short tribute to Emma Soyer, as well as a self-portrait here engraved by H.R. Hall. A near fine copy, in publisher's gilt and blind-stamped brown boards, with very slight fading and a bit of rubbing to head and foot of spine.
