London, England: Ernest Benn Limited, 1924. From an unstated limitation, probably not in excess of 2,000 copies. Author's preface dated September 1924. Printed and bound in Great Britain, except that the collotype plates were printed in France. This is a non-circulating copy from a private library collection with almost no ex-library markings. 12.75 x 9 inches. Putty-colored buckram binding with fairly crisp gilt-stamped lettering to the spine. The binding with major bumping and wear at the spine head and tail, and at the corners. Rubbing along the gutters. Hinges splitting. Text block is not securely bound in. Spine lean present. Text pages printed on Antique De Luxe laid paper. With viii and 84 numbered pages of text, followed by 110 collotype plates, of which 6 are in color and the remainder monochrome. The plates on medium-weight, matte stock. The color plates with tissue guards. Front pastedown with small, clean pasted-in sticker of former bookseller, else very clean pastedowns. Very small, ink library stamp from the Avery Brundage Collection to the bottom of the title page. Same stamp also to the top, fore and bottom edges, very faint and NOT on the pages themselves. Else a clean copy. No foxing, spotting or tears observed. A few of the plates with slight chipping along the outer-most fore-edge, trivial. Note that a number of the page signatures are detached or in the process of detaching. However, the book is complete; there are no missing pages or plates. A Fair Only copy, sold with all faults. Worthy of rebinding/recasing and priced accordingly. This book is essentially an examination of the variety of forms and schemes of ornamentation applied to bronze vessels and implements in early and medieval China.. First British Edition. Buckram. Fair. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall.
