ND. No binding. College of Arms Dec. 19th (ND). College of Arms, Dec. 19th. Dear Sir, By desire of the Rev. Mr. [Whately] of [Rise] I forward to you by special messenger a [horse bit] and [--?--], of the receipt of which I shall feel obliged by your informing me. I am, dear sir, yours faithfully, J.R. [Planche] Addressed to: F.W. [Franks] Esq., F.S.A.  James Robinson Planche (1796-1880) British antiquary and dramatist. Robinson became a noted heraldic writer and authority on costume, and was appointed Somerset Herald in 1866. Over a period of approximately 60 years he wrote, adapted, or collaborated on 176 plays in a wide range of genres. Planche was responsible for introducing historically accurate costume into nineteenth century British theatre, and subsequently became an acknowledged expert on historical costume, publishing a number of works on the topic. Besides his great number of burlesques, he wrote many other works, of which the most valuable are History of British Costume, Regal Records, and The Pursuivant at Arms. His interesting autobiography appeared in 1872.
