Text in English with quotations and examples in Arabic, Greek and Latin, 4to, approximately 315 x 235 mm, 12½ x 9¼ inches, 7 engraved plates including 1 folding map of Alexandria, pages: xiii, 127, pages 126-127 misnumbered 226-227, bound in half calf over marbled sides, gilt dividing lines, rebacked to match with gilt decoration and lettering.  Corners worn, cardboard showing slightly at tips, marbled paper darkened along edges, a few small pieces of marbled paper missing, bookseller's tiny label, reference library bookplate and ink library numbers on front pastedown, small unobtrusive blind library stamp to title page, 3 text pages to each plate, slight faint foxing to margins of plates, pages next to plates faintly browned, very slight faint foxing to 3 images, contents otherwise bright and clean, binding tight and firm.  A very good copy of a scarce Egyptology item.  Joseph White (1745-1814), orientalist and theologian has inscribed the title page at the top:  'J.
